Queanbeyan’s Street Party is only days away with the big event happening Saturday,November 26.

Make sure you come down to Crawford Street and get involved in all the festivities.

Bungendore’s party will be on Mick Sherd Oval on Saturday, December 3 and features activities for all ages, good food and a great community feel.

Braidwood’s party finishes off the celebrations on Saturday, December 10. There has been some brilliant community input into all the parties so come and get involved in your local celebration.

Festival innovation

The Majors Creek Festival continued its long and successful history at the 2016 event earlier this month. The festival is one of the successful applicants for the Stronger Communities Fund for an impressive and innovative project designed to reduce and divert waste products.

This project will be in place at the 2017 event and will see organic waste generated at the festival converted into high quality compost for use on a local property. The applicants also plan to have this project available for other events in the area.

The rapid growth with the onset of Spring is keeping our parks team busy. The team is working on a coordinated schedule and appreciate your patience as they work to get on top of the growth.

Australia Day awards

Awards are available for both the Citizen and the Young Citizen of the Year, as well as the event of the year.

The aim of the awards is to recognise outstanding contributions to the local community. There are many outstanding community members throughout the region, make sure you recognise them by submitting a nomination or nominations.

Nomination forms are available at the council website and nominations close Wednesday, December 7.

Over 60s cricket

Neil Bulger Oval in Queanbeyan will host a match between ACT over 60s and the England over 60s cricket teams on Thursday,November 24.

I will be in attendance at the lunch break to welcome the England team to the area and look forward to seeing some of the match. This is a lead-in game for the English team into a three-match series against the Australian over 60s team.
