BIG GAME: Baranduda’s Vince Moran, Zach Leach, Lachie Walker and Mitch Ryan ahead of their clash with Mount Beauty. Picture: ELENOR TEDENBORGBARANDUDA captain Vince Moran will be an omission from his side’s clash with Mount Beauty today following the birth of his son earlier this week.
However, he admitted his absence is timely as he looks to overcome a niggling injury which has prevented him from bowling in the last two matches.
The third-placed Rangers snapped a two-game losing streak with a narrow 10-run win against Yackandandah last weekend, to sit eight points behind Kiewa with five other teams.
Mount Beauty is one of those five teams tied 22 points with Baranduda, along withEskdale, Dederang and Yackandandah.
Moran hopes the recent good form of Paul Monro and Aidan Ryan continues when the Rangers head to Mount Beauty for round six.
Monro has opened the batting and notched up 213 runsin the first five rounds at an average of 53.25, including two half centuries.
“Paul is one of the best batsmen in the competition,” Moran said.
“He’s very patient and we’ve seen him bat right through the innings a couple of times before.”
From a bowling perspective, Ryan has taken nine wickets at an average of 14.89.
“He’s one of the smartest bowlers and he always has a plan,” Moran said.
Moran added due the unavailability of a number of regular senior players, several lower graders have relished the chance to play in the top side.
“Jake Spargo has come in and taken three wickets and has done a lot of work with Criag Scammell on his technique,” he said.
“Bryce Shergold also made 31 runs last week, which shows we’ve got great depth.”
In today’s other matches, ladder leaders Kiewa will start heavy favourites against Howlong at home, Bethanga hosts Barnawartha-Chiltern, Wodonga faces Eskdale at Les Cheesley Oval, while Dederang and Yackandanah square off in what should also be an interesting clash.
Yackandandah’s Mick Walker will also celebrate a milestone today when he lines up for the Roos for the 200thtime.
