Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, with the support of the Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce, invites you to celebrate in Port Macquarie with the annual ‘Countdown to Christmas’ event on Thursday, November 24, at Town Green.

It includes a mascot race, a street parade, on stage entertainment, the lighting of the Christmas tree and ending with a spectacular fireworks show.

The tree will be located in the centre median strip behind the cenotaph and will be as large and decorated as ever. Over 1000 pieces will decorate the tree.

This year the parade will be longer, commencing at Hayward Street and finishing at the northern end of Horton Street. Over 40 floats will be participating in the parade.

The parade will be led by our Olympians Ryley Batt and Shelley Watts in two convertible mustangs.

Of course, the jolly fat man will be in attendance to meet eager children and hear their Christmas wishes.

Santa will be travelling in his vintage fire truck and the two lucky winners of the Port Central competition will ride get to ride with Santa.

The express spoke to Santa as he prepared for his trip to the Mid North Coast, eager to meet and greet the locals, as well as hear the wishes of children from all over.

“I am busy making plenty of toys but, thanks to my helpers, I will be able to take a break and visit Port Macquarie,” he said.

“I have my naughty and nice list with me, and I will be checking it twice to find out where I need to deliver presents to in Port Macquarie.”

The event offers the community a chance to join one another for a light-hearted celebration in the lead-up to Christmas time.

This year, community members will have the opportunity to contribute to Christmas Hampers for those less fortunate families who struggle around this time of year. Food hampers will be prepared and distributed amongst local Port Macquarie-Hastings charities.

The lighting of the Christmas tree will take place at approximately 8pm. The Mascot Race will begin at 5.30pm. To register, phone Alex on 0414 772 771.
