‘Colourful Journey’ opened on Sunday, November 13 and is her first solo exhibition.

The long-time artist usually paints two days a week, one with Margaret Brown at her studio at Sisters Beach and the other with a small untutored group at Studio 211, Upper Burnie.

She also hasher own studio at home.

She has previously featured in group exhibitions, includingat the Somerset Arts Festival, Australia Day exhibition at Latrobe, TasArt Awards at Burnie Regional Gallery and in Burnie Coastal Art Group members exhibitions.

Mrs Lillas Matthews said the “Colourful Journey” exhibition came together she looked objectively at what she had been painting for the last couple of years.

“We have been travelling extensively for the past ten years, both within Australia with our caravan and overseas, mostly to Asian countries but one trip to Europe, visiting Dubai on our way home,” she said.

“I realised that our travel had certainly influenced the subject matter of my paintings as I had been very inspired both by my surroundings, the landscape and the detail and on returning home found more inspiration in our beautiful Tasmanian landscape and my garden.

“So this exhibition is a little bit of all of the above and, as the title, suggests my love of colour is primarily my focus within my paintings.”

The exhibition is a collection of 16 paintings, most of whichare acrylic, while some use mixed mediacollage with the acrylic paint to give a layered effect.

Mrs Lillas Matthewshad family and friends travel from around the state for the exhibition opening and said she was overwhelmed by the number in attendance.

All of her paintings are also for sale and she hasalready managed to sell a couple of them.

The Wonders of Wynyard exhibition centre is open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week.
